During the holy month of Ramadan, Justice for Muslims Collective, GABRIELA DC and ICHRP DMV group, along with Katarungan, Migrante DMV, Anakbayan Maryland, Kamalayan, Do Good, March 4 Racial Justice, API Resistance, Many Languages One Voice (MLOV), Empower DC, Jewish Voice for Peace - DC MetroThe Sanctuaries - Washington, DC, DMV Muslims Making Change, American Muslims for Palestine and Collective Action For Safe Spaces (CASS), and other groups are organizing “We Demand Justice: Iftar As An Act of Resistance” at Freedom Plaza on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 7:00pm to center Muslims who are victims of state repression domestically and abroad.

In an environment where the Muslim Ban is still in effect, TPS has been revoked for many communities, and undocumented community members are being deported and murdered, our communities continue to be criminalized and attacked. With an escalation of war at home and abroad, we will highlight the local, national, and global connections.

On the same evening on June 12, 2018 at 6:00pm, the “Rise Against Pres. Duterte’s Dictatorship and the Attacks on a People’s Democracy in the Philippines” will be hosted by solidarity allies and organizations. Amidst the clamor for investigation of the detention and torture of Jerome Aba (a Moro, or Muslim, Filipino human rights defender) by agents of the U.S. Customs Border and Protection and of the U.S. Homeland Security at SFO International airport on April 19, 2018 raise questions regarding the true independence of the Philippine government and whose interests the Duterte government protects. With the escalation of extra-judicial killings and the intensification of Martial Law in Mindanao, Muslim and indigenous communities on U.S. soil and in the country continue to be targeted under the guise of Duterte’s Oplan Kapayapaan - a strategic blueprint of the U.S. War on Terror in the Philippines which has intensified around under the Trump’s administration.

It is a critical moment to mobilize people’s resistance to expose and oppose U.S. Imperialism in the form of the War on Terror, it’s impacts on the lives of Muslims, and to fight for justice and lasting peace for all Muslims.

We are requesting you as an individual, or with your organization, to stand in solidarity and co-sponsor the “We Demand Justice: Iftar As An Act of Resistance” in Freedom Plaza. Participants with the “Rise Against Pres. Duterte’s Dictatorship and the Attacks on a People’s Democracy in the Philippines” action will be converging together in solidarity with the mobilization at 7:00pm. – marching from the Trump International Hotel to Freedom Plaza.

- If you are interested in co-sponsoring or volunteering, please message us on FB.
