Monumental Justice is a statewide movement of Virginians who believe that local communities should be able to make decisions about the Confederate statues in their own public spaces. After a national gathering of white supremacists in Charlottesville in 2017 to celebrate and “defend” statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson led to three deaths and dozens of injuries, it became crystal clear that localities must be able to act to protect their citizens and remove these statues if they see fit.

State Delegates Sally Hudson (D-Charlottesville) and Jay Jones (D-Norfolk), and Senator Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) are chief cosponsors of the bill that would put local control over Confederate statues into state law.

Join us at the January 8 Monumental Justice Rally and in direct lobbying efforts to demand that Virginia’s legislators vote for passage of this legislation .
